Oakwood House Shortlisted for Four Top Norfolk Care Awards!

And the winner is…

At Oakwood House, we strive to give the very best care to each and every one of our residents. The high level of service and care we provide has been recognised in our most recent CQC report where we were rated as ‘Good’ but the best form of recognition always comes from the lives we transform and the trust of our residents and their families.

We are delighted to share that our commitment to excellence has been recognised by the wider community as well! The Norfolk Care Awards 2022 shortlisted our team for an amazing four highly commended awards. With nine categories in total, we think that our nominations are certainly something to shout about!

Here is a closer look at what these nominations mean and how they reflect the quality of care we deliver:

delivering excellence through learning and development

This nomination demonstrates our passion for supporting our team. We believe that to provide the very best care, we must ensure our staff are the very best they can be.

We’re proud that our systems to promote learning and development were recognised. Our team has worked hard to identify and build the skill and knowledge of every individual. While we understand the importance of theoretical training, we go beyond this by supporting staff to understand exactly how theory can be applied to practical situations. This learning is backed up with supervision, appraisals, and staff meetings, ensuring new knowledge is fully embedded into their daily practice.

collaboration in care

We understand that for care to be truly effective, a partnership approach is essential. This nomination highlights our success in collaborating with staff, residents, and relatives to provide exceptional, holistic care.

Our proactive approach led to us being successful in our application for the teaching and learning in care homes project. This commitment saw us attend training sessions and deliver a comprehensive programme during a time of immense pressure on the care sector. This work helped us establish effective working relationships with key stakeholders, ensuring we always act as an effective team to secure the best outcomes for our residents.

Rising Star – Emily Goodchild

At Oakwood House, our people are everything. It’s our dedicated staff that makes this house a home, and their care and passion bring so much to the lives of our residents.

That’s why we were thrilled to see Emily Goodchild shortlisted for the prestigious Rising Star award. Emily joined us in late 2021, and despite starting her care career during a challenging time, her natural passion for helping others shone through immediately. Her dedication is infectious, and she has quickly progressed to the crucial role of Care Mentor, where she guides and inspires new members of the team.

This nomination is a powerful acknowledgment of the difference her energy and compassionate care make in our residents’ lives every single day.

nursing in social care

This highly commended nomination acknowledges our commitment to compassionate and expert end-of-life care.

All of our team undergo further training in palliative care and bereavement care, equipping them with the necessary skills to handle these difficult conversations with sensitivity. Furthermore, our clinical team developed a new document to take note of end-of-life preferences, which acts as a personalised care plan to direct care during a resident’s last days. This nomination confirms our supportive and compassionate approach during the most sensitive of times.

what do these monimations mean for you?

When it comes to your care at Oakwood House, these nominations change nothing: you’ll still receive the very best in care from a dedicated team. However, you and your relatives may find it reassuring to know that we stand by all that we say.

It’s easy for any care home to use words to create appealing brochures and websites. These nominations go to show that, at Oakwood House, there is more to us than just words. We are proud to say that we have been recognised as a care home that delivers on its promises.
