At the end of June, Mica started as our head chef, she has a 15 year career in catering following completion of hospitality management training at college. She has worked in a variety of establishments, from small local village pubs serving traditional homecooked meals, to creating a la carte menus and catering for large-scale functions at grand country hotels. She has even owned her bakery! Mica has joined Oakwood House with a vision to get residents involved as much as possible with menu selections by holding taster afternoons she will be using this time to encourage discussions about the importance of nutrition and hydration.
July is still the beautiful summertime for playful activities. Our residents had a lovely caring month with varied activities. The courtyard became the main stage witnessing a lot of amusing moments when we enjoyed every sunny afternoon. Weekly active games and bingo happen as normal. However, let’s explore some other memorable moments.
In the early month, we welcomed Chris Wilson back to entertain after a time. Like a Rock star, Chris skillfully interacted with each audience member. The vivid sound of the electric guitar and favourite melodies entertained our residents.
In the next week, our home also greeted furry little friends. A herd of guinea pigs who were not only hungry but much-loved cuddling touched each of our residents. They visited almost everyone in the home. Not only residents, but staff were also eager to cuddle and feed them. We had a lovely afternoon. In the pictures, some of our residents shared satisfying moments with little friends.
At the end of the month, Lisa, the beauty therapist came with lovely caring moments. She offered hand massages and manicures. With some residents who were still “lazy and loving bed too much”, she didn’t mind coming to any resident and cherished them with small touching hand care. Whereas, other ladies enjoyed a beauty chat over a nice cuppa. Lots of soft hand beauty tips were discussed.
