Oakwood House’s Bug Hotel

In September, we got in touch with nature as residents were busy collecting twigs, leaves, and cones during their garden walks ready to make bug boxes.

Phoenix, our gardener helped us put together a rather large bug hotel. Residents were happy filling tubes and pots with leaves. One of our residents was happy drilling holes in the logs with lots of guidance. As you can see, we got carried away.

After we set it all up, a little robin came down to check it out. Residents said they really enjoyed their day! We have already seen quite a few bugs moving into their new home including bees, ladybirds, woodlice and even spiders. Autumn is the perfect time when these bugs look for spaces to hibernate. Did you know these insects are useful for pollinating flowers and eating aphids?

Be sure to check it out on your next visit to Oakwood House.

Spanish Day

Hola!

Hello! We continued our trip around the world as we stopped off in Spain (or at least imagined we were there) to celebrate Spanish Day. Residents enjoyed eating patatas bravas, pisto, tortilla espanola, tapas & Spanish orange cake. The day also involved testing residents knowledge with a Spanish quiz. It was a great opportunity to learn a few phrases in Spanish which residents found fun. Make sure you keep up to date with our facebook posts to find out where our next visit will be.

Motivator of the Month

Every month we gather to celebrate the “Motivator of the month.” Residents, relatives and staff can nominate staff. These are read out by the home manager, Helen. This month 2 of our staff received the most nominations and were gifted prizes. Well done to Lynda & Kelly!

Staff really appreciate the kind comments they receive, and it helps them to know that their hardwork is recognised. It also helps to boost morale and create a positive work environment.

You can also nominate a staff member who has been helpful to you, just pop the nomination card into the suggestion box in reception.
